The core of Jones Valley is roughly 600 homes sitting on what used to be a 2,500-acre working farm. Most went up between the 1960s and the 1980s: split-levels, long ranches, Cape Cods and Colonial Revivals on wooded lots off Four Mile Post Road and Garth Road, out past Jones Valley Elementary. Very few of them are one flat level.
That layout sets up the whole job. A split-level funnels every trip through the house onto one short flight and one landing, so carpet there ages several times faster than the bedrooms it serves. The lower-level den is the second hot spot. It's where the dog sleeps and the grandkids eat, and daylight never quite reaches it.
Under a lot of that carpet sits the original wood floor, which is exactly why we don't soak anything down here. Water that soaks through has nowhere to go, so we don't put it there. The Ledges and Jones Valley Gardens are a different trade
Climb out of the valley and the material on the floor changes completely. The Ledges is gated at the top of Huntsville Mountain, built out in the early 2000s with eight-bedroom Neoclassical houses and two-story Italianate townhomes. Jones Valley Gardens runs to about 7,000 square feet a home, and Villas at Jones Valley covers the smaller, lower-maintenance end.
What's underfoot up there is rarely builder carpet. It's wool broadloom, silk and viscose area rugs, and stair runs long enough to price as two flights. Wool browns when it's over-wet and viscose can be wrecked outright, so we test a hidden corner, match the chemistry to the fiber, and keep the water down.

Monte Sano, Green Mountain and Huntsville Mountain wall this valley on three sides, and mature trees shade most of the older lots on top of that. Direct sun is scarce. Aldridge Creek keeps the low ground damp, and anyone who has walked the greenway trailhead off Bailey Cove Road after a July rain knows what the air does down there.
