What happens on carpet cleaning day, start to finish

Most people book a carpet cleaning once a year, which means most people don't quite remember how the day goes. Here's the whole thing in order: ten minutes of prep the night before, a short walk-through when our technician arrives, the cleaning itself, and a room you can walk on again in about an hour.
- Pick up the small stuff off the floor. We move the sofas and chairs.
- Put pets somewhere they can't wander through, just for the afternoon.
- Walk the rooms with the technician first. The exact price is written down before anything starts.
- Carpet is dry in about an hour. Furniture goes back the same day.
Ten minutes of prep the night before
You don't need to clear the house. You need to clear the floor. Everything below takes less time than loading the dishwasher.
Pick up what lives on the floor
Toys, shoes, dog bowls, floor lamps, plant stands, the basket of chargers by the couch. Anything small enough to carry, carry it out of the rooms we're cleaning.
Clear a path to the door
Our technician brings the equipment in from the van, so a clear route from the front door to the first room saves a few trips and keeps nothing from getting bumped.
Note the spots you care about
The coffee ring by the recliner, the place the puppy picked, the hallway lane that never looks right. You'll point them out at the walk-through, and it helps to have the list in your head.
Plan the pets
A shut bedroom, a crate, the back yard. Our solutions are safe for animals; the goal is just to keep paws off the rooms while we work.
A quick vacuum is optional. Our technician vacuums as part of the process, so if you run one the night before it just means the machine spends its time on the ground-in soil rather than the loose crumbs.
When the technician arrives
The first thing that happens is a walk-through, and it's the most important five minutes of the visit. You show the technician the rooms and the spots. The technician measures, looks at the fiber and the traffic lanes, and asks about anything unusual, like a pet accident that's been treated before or a rug you want done at the same time.
Then the price goes on paper before any cleaning starts. Three rooms up to 450 square feet is $109. Extra rooms, pet treatment from $30 a room, and protectant from $20 a room are all listed out so the total is the total. Nothing gets added after the fact.
This is also where you'll hear an honest read on any spot. Most come out. If one won't — a bleach mark, a dye that's already gone — you find out standing in the room, not on the invoice.
The cleaning itself
Our process is low-moisture, which is why the rest of your day isn't lost to it. The technician pre-treats the spots you pointed out, applies a measured amount of solution, works it through the fiber to release the soil, and lifts the soil out. Sofas, chairs and end tables get moved and cleaned under, then set back on small protective tabs so the legs never sit on damp carpet.
An average three-room job takes about an hour of working time, longer with pet treatment or a rug added on. You're welcome to stay in the house the whole time or head out once the walk-through is done. The solutions are eco-friendly and non-toxic, so there's nothing to air out and no smell that lingers.
Dry in about an hour: what to do after
Give it the hour
Walking across in socks is fine right away. Give it about an hour before the room goes back to full use.
Leave the tabs until it's dry
The foil or plastic squares under wood and metal legs stay put until the carpet is completely dry, then they come out and go in the trash.
Let the kids and dogs back in
Once it's dry, everybody comes home. There's nothing on the carpet that needs to be kept away from.

Questions people ask before we arrive
Do I need to move furniture before the carpet cleaners arrive?
Only the small stuff. Pick up toys, shoes, floor lamps, plant stands and anything that lives on the floor. Our technician is happy to move the smaller pieces — chairs, end tables, ottomans — as part of the job and sets them back on protective tabs when the cleaning is done. We typically work around the larger items like beds, dressers and entertainment centers, and we clean right up to the edge.
Should I vacuum before a professional carpet cleaning?
It helps but it isn't required. Our technician vacuums as part of the process, so a quick pass the night before simply means the machine spends its time on the ground-in soil instead of the loose crumbs. If you're short on time, skip it and we'll handle everything.
Where should pets go during carpet cleaning?
Somewhere they can't wander onto the rooms being cleaned: a bedroom with the door shut, a crate, the back yard, or a neighbor's house for the afternoon. Our solutions are non-toxic and safe for animals, so the concern is traffic, not chemistry. Once the carpet is dry, about an hour after we finish, they're free to come back.
How soon can I put furniture back after carpet cleaning?
As soon as it's dry, which is about an hour with our low-moisture process. Leave the foil or plastic tabs under wood and metal legs until you're sure the carpet is fully dry, because stain and rust can transfer into damp fiber. After that, everything goes back where it was.
Do I need to be home during the carpet cleaning?
Somebody needs to let us in and walk the rooms with the technician at the start, because that's when the exact price is written down and any problem spots are pointed out. After that you're welcome to stay or go. Many customers run an errand and come home to dry carpet.
